February 2010
January has been both a routine and an eventful month. Having a number of things that "followed the plan" made
it easier to follow after the squeaky wheel to give it some grease. We have had some "squeaky wheels".
Brian spent half of a day for jury duty until he was eliminated from the selection pool. The boiler that heats
KIAM has had intermittent trouble. KAGV had some high winds that caused some power outages. Karl has had extra
work because of the snowfall. The plow broke and got repaired to push snow from the transmitter building and
the studios of KAGV.
The Burkeys and the Baileys exchanged places in Bethel with a few adjustments along to getting into the routine.
Palmer Bailey gave special radio coverage to the Kuskokwim 300 sled-dog race from Bethel that was sent to the
Network. A couple of the villages covered by the radio network have been off the air. VFCM has a potential for
new transmitters in some of the villages where we have filed, but where the FCC has not acted yet.
In Anchorage, on January 28, Bob Eldridge had unexpected surgery to remove a kidney which had a tumor. The
very next day, in the same hospital, VFCM Board President, John Lynn’s wife Edythe, had a similar surgery to
remove a kidney due to cancer.
Some of these "squeaky wheels" are very minor issues. Some are quite serious.
We are grateful for your prayers for us. Thank you for partnering with us to bring Christian radio to Alaska.
